Rocket League is definitely high on the list of my favorite games. The idea of the game is actually pretty wild. The game consists of a huge variety of cars. Surprisingly the Rocket League community typically uses 3 of the 50+ cars available. The most popular of these three in the Octane, then Dominus, then Fennec. Personally, I use the Samurai.
So the cars look pretty cool. But what is the actual game?
Well the standard way Rocket League intended their game to be played is a 3v3 game. However the most popular game mode played is the 2v2. No matter how many people are in the game, the gameplay is the same for the core modes. There is a ball, and two nets.
The goal is like normal soccer, get the ball in the net. There are differences between soccer and Rocket League though. Obviously the player count is much smaller in Rocket League with the max player count being 4 people on each team. Next, the games are much shorter, 5 minutes for every single game. And you can actually take people out of the game temporarily by "demolishing" them. You have to go fast enough then ram into them to demolish someone. Once you are demolished you respawn in 2 seconds on your side of the field.,
Because of these changes, the playstyle is much different, but similiar in a way to real soccer.
Some other features your car is equipped with is boost and jump. Those are pretty self-explanitory. Boost makes you faster but you run out of it eventually and must get more in the corners of the field. And jump allows you to get off the ground and even double jump. You can use your second jump to get higher, or to flip to a side. Front, Back, Left, Right. Jumping, combined with boost, allows you to fly. We call this doing an "aerial". it's the most used skill in Rocket League.
On kickoff, rather than giving one team the ball, both teams have one person closest to the ball, allowing them to both go for it and let fate decide what side of the field its on. There have been many ways people can overcome the luck of this by getting to the ball first. But they require a lot of practice.
When the teams are tied, and time runs out. it goes into Overtime. in overtime, the first person to score wins. Usually there isnt a timer in OT but sometimes there is. If there is the team with the first goal wins. The cool thing about OT is that if you are down one point and your team is about to lose because the timer is about to go off. After the timer ends, you can keep playing until the ball hits the ground. So the ball gets flung into the air, and the timer is up, you can still score before it hits the ground.
Now that you know some basic knowledge of the game, I hope that helps you understand some of these Rocket League highlights I have had.
